UNDP – Climate Promise Initiative, Update the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in the field of adaptation in Guinea-Bissau, implementation of the Paris Agreement on the global climate
The assignment aimed to update Guinea-Bissau’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, with a strong focus on adaptation planning and reporting. It involved conducting climate impact analyses, developing sectoral adaptation frameworks, and outlining a Roadmap for NDC implementation, Adaptation Component. Key outputs included a comprehensive report updating the NDC Adaptation Component (2022-2030) and a four-day modular stakeholder training program. The assignment included a series of incremental deliverables and a modular stakeholder training program that lasted 4 days. Besides a Road Map for implementation, the main report aligns with the UNFCCC Katowice Rulebook, integrating national adaptation priorities and resilience-building measures, integrating these priorities on the basis of climate risk and vulnerability assessments, and the development of detailed sectoral frameworks for adaptation for the period 2022-2030. Six priority adaptation sectors were covered, each with sectoral adaptation frameworks and specific targets for resilience-building: (1) Agriculture & Livestock; (2) Ecosystems & Fisheries; (3) Water Resources; (4) Urban Areas & Vital Infrastructure; (5) Disaster Risk Reduction; (6) Coastal Zone Management. Other and Cross-cutting themes were also covered: (i) Energy; (ii) Human Health; (iii) Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment; and (iv) Knowledge Management and Capacity Building.
